In Italy squares are called Piazzas and are in many places in large cities and are usually at the center of a small town. Italy also has a lot of churches, because they've been being built since the time of the Romans and usually hold the tombs of famous people, saints, or popes.
This is the Victor Emmanuel Monument near the Palatine Hill. It was begun in 1885 and finished in 1911. It was built in honor of Victor Emmanuel II, who was the first king of reunified Italy.
This is the Piazza del Campidoglio. It was designed by Michelangelo along with the façades of the buildings. It is near a church called Santa Maria in Aracoeli which is behind the Victor Emmanuel Monument.
This is one of the many monuments to Romulus and Remus, who are the founders of Rome. Romulus started Rome on the Palantine Hill after he fought and killed his brother because of an argument on where they would start the city. The legend about them is that as they were travelling to were Rome now stands to start a city they nursed off of a wolf which is pictured here. Rome is named after Romulus.
This is the Trinità dei Monti a 16th century church at the top of the famous Spanish Steps.
